The Scan GTX Gaming Event
June 10th, 2013
By Jen Andersson
The GeForce GTX 780 has arrived to some fantastic reviews across the web from leading media sites, so to celebrate the launch of the GTX 7 Series, we joined forces with Scan Computers to host a gaming event up in Bolton, UK. Using Scan’s highly popular showroom, we wanted to make sure GeForce fans could get hands on with the new GeForce GTX 780 as well as be first in the UK to get hands-on with NVIDIA SHIELD! The event attracted hundreds of gamers in store and on the webcast, where we live streamed the entire event to make sure nobody missed out on any of the activities that took place throughout the day.
With lots of prizes up for grabs, from straight up cash to GTX hardware, Scan arranged lots of competitions and gaming tournaments to keep people busy, including a Counter-Strike: Global Offensive death match, Cobra simulation GRID 2 race for those wanting to show off their driving skills, and an online League of Legends tournament with 8 of the best challenger teams from across Europe. Alongside this, NVIDIA were on hand throughout the day to present the latest NVIDIA technology to a theatre full audience, and the room was packed-out with Scan's award-winning 3XS gaming PCs and laptops for the crowd to put through their paces. We were also joined by the UK's premier gaming clan, Team Dignitas, who were available for people to pitch their skills against, as well as to offer tips and tricks to improve their gaming.
For the first time at a Scan event, a live webcast was set up to broadcast the event globally and we had people from as far as the USA log in to watch the action. Over 700 people joined us online to watch the GTX gaming event unfold, which was amazing.
Competing for the NVIDIA Cup
Scan kicked off the ‘NVIDIA Cup’ tournament online, which involved 8 of the best European League of Legends teams contending for 1st place. Heimerdingers Collossai, the team who took 1st place, is a force to be reckoned with having won the last 3 European tournaments and continued to be undefeated by taking home the NVIDIA Cup! Eternity came in at 2nd place having stepped in to the tournament on short notice, defeating the former LCS (Riot’s League of Legends Championship Series) team, GIANTS.
“What a great success! The support from our community was incredible – we had over 300 guests and 700 people viewing the online webcast – it was great to see everyone come together to produce a fun, action packed day allowing our customers to get truly hands-on with the latest and greatest games and hardware. We’re already excited about what we can do for the next one!” said Elan Raja, Director, Scan Computers International.
Ben Berraondo, Senior PR Manager for GeForce in EMEAI agreed, “It was phenomenal to see so many gamers make the trip to come see us and hear more about the GeForce GTX 780, GTX 770 and GeForce Experience. It’s great to have these kinds of events where people can ask questions and get hands on with the latest hardware. Scan put on a fantastic day and I really can’t wait until the next one”.
