GeForce GTX 680 Community Event - Sweden
March 27th, 2012

These are exciting times for avid gamers the world over – in the last 6 months we have seen some truly amazing games released, such as Batman Arkham City, Battlefield 3, Skyrim and Mass Effect 3. The future looks equally exciting with some truly huge titles slated for launch in the very near future but this now raises the question “what can I play all the top games on with everything switched up to max?” Answer; the new GeForce GTX 680, the first of our GPUs based on the all new Kepler architecture. The GeForce GTX 680 has arrived to fantastic reviews from all of the leading review sites and to celebrate the launch of our new card we have hit the road to host a series of community events so that GeForce fans everywhere can get hands on with the new GTX 680.
Our first stop was in Sweden on the day of launch, at Webhallen’s Sveavägen store in central Stockholm. Webhallen is famous for putting on amazing launch events and is the No.1 choice in Sweden for nearly every major games title launch. Its list of huge successes include StarCraft II, World of Warcraft and most recently Battlefield 3 complete with abseiling soldiers transcending the face of the building that houses the store. However the GeForce GTX 680 community event was Webhallen’s first hardware launch in over four years, so it was important to everyone that the event was a big success - it is fair to say that no one was disappointed.
The doors opened at 3pm local time which was the official launch time in Sweden and even though the expectation was that the attendance would be low, to begin with the place was packed. Presentations on our new Kepler architecture and specifically the GeForce GTX 680 were given every 90 minutes and there were a host of GTX 680 powered PCs on hand for the crowd to put through their paces. Webhallen and EA also kicked off a mini Battlefield tournament before the event with the quarter and semi-finals played throughout the day.
The store closed at 7pm and then re-opened at 8pm for the main event which was absolutely rammed. Ben Berraondo our EMEAI GeForce PR manager took to the stage hyping up the crowd before diving into the brilliant new feature set that the GTX 680 has to offer. After the presentation there was a 30 minute, quick-fire Q&A session which gave everyone a chance to dig further into the 680’s architecture, new technologies such as GPU Boost, FXAA and Adaptive V-Sync.
Once the main presentation was done with the finals of the Webhallen/EA Battlefield tournament concluded with each of the four winning team members walking away with an Asus GTX 680 and an Asus 27” 3D Vision 2.0 monitor, our great friends at Blizzard then took to the stage to talk through Diablo III which looked absolutely stunning before giving out 100 beta keys to some of the lucky fans in the audience.
As we reflect back on our first community event in Sweden and Webhallen’s first GPU launch event, we do so with some very fond memories. The crowd was amazing, Webhallen was the perfect partner along with the guys from Sweclockers who were our media partner for this event. So there you have it, Kepler rocks, Webhallen rocks, Sweden’s gamers rock and with this year’s exciting release schedule for PC games, now is the perfect time to Gear Up.
Check back later this week where we will be showing the UK launch event.
