The Making of a Boutique Gaming PC (Part 3 of 6): Verkkokauppa
Q: The new X79 platform has caused quite a stir for high-end system builders. Tell us about what you've been able to achieve with this new platform.
A: Without going too much into specific details, the overall benefit is that which drives our whole brand idea - which is to offer the very best and latest that the PC hardware industry has to offer to our customers.
Q: Almost all of your X79 systems are built with two or more GeForce graphics cards in SLI. Why is this? How do these two technologies complement each other?
A: The main reason for this is that the Blackstorm brand is focused on high end performance systems. This means that for a new platform aimed at enthusiasts such as the X79 it is only natural to offer the very best and fastest graphics cards available. We know that cards such as GTX 580 and 590 are already fast but for us and our demanding customers this is simply not enough. We will still of course offer some “entry level”-versions as well with single graphics cards but to get the very best performance SLI is the way to go.
Q: Of all your gaming PCs, which model are you most proud of? Please give us a rundown of how it's built, from the component selection, construction, to testing.
A: It’s a difficult question to answer because we are naturally proud of each computer we make. The whole idea of the Blackstorm brand is to make high end computers which are of high enough quality and performance that we would be satisfied to buy one ourselves, so it really is from enthusiast to another, and that is the kind of message we want to deliver to our customers. Still if we had to pick one model, I would say that Revolution series is probably currently the one of the best available.
The construction is hand made by our specialists who are actually enthusiasts themselves and highly devoted to building the systems. It is of special importance to us to make each computer like they were our own so no cable is left loose and everything is tidy and neat inside. For components we choose the best and most reliable products that fit for the specific product and price range. We are constantly monitoring the quality throughout the building phase and also through our service department and if we notice problems we will react to them immediately.
Q: When people buy a multi-GPU PC from you, what percentage choose SLI? What are the main reasons why people go with SLI?
A: The main reason for going with SLI is that the performance is a bit faster than multi-GPU, for example GTX580 SLI vs GTX590, while still being cost effective and scalable.
Q: Many of our readers are avid system builders themselves. What are your top three tips for someone looking to build a high-end gaming PC?
A:
- Plan and budget the system according to your specific needs.
- For a gaming PC always choose a good enough graphics card (or if budget allows, several) first but also don’t compromised on the CPU too much.
- Performance is always great, but constant noise isn’t that much fun either, so try to choose the case and PSU that meet these needs and still keep the system cool.
Q: Finally, there are quite a few vendors building high-end gaming PCs. What makes you special? What's your philosophy when it comes to building systems and taking care of customers?
A: Like stated before, we take high pride in our PCs. Our goal is to offer only the latest and best components that money can buy. This is what makes us different from standard market PCs which are always more or less compromised for several reasons that the large manufacturers have to deal in producing for the mass market. We offer the full experience of the latest what is available without the risk of building the system yourself. And in the unfortunate the case a customer has a problem with a new computer we will either offer a complete new system or offer a quick solution to fix the problem. The ideal state however is that such a problem newer becomes a reality and this is what we constantly strive at.
